With a new Community Vision for Surrey and Organisational Strategy, we have made huge strides over the past year, stabilising our finances and developing a transformation programme that will fundamentally change the way we work, for the benefit of Surrey residents. The challenge is huge, the opportunities even greater.

Our ambitious Finance Improvement Programme is redefining the way we work as partners with the wider organisation. You will be at the forefront of excellent financial management, transformation and income generation, part of a team working to deliver great services to the community and to ensure our finances are sustainable. If this excites you, then this opportunity is for you!

A key member of our Finance Senior Leadership Team, you will build and lead a proactive and skilled commercial finance function that provides financial advice and support to the Council's extensive commercial portfolio and trading companies.

A fully qualified accountant, you will have extensive knowledge and extensive experience in the commercial field. This will include investment appraisals, business case preparation and evaluation, commercial negotiations with JV partners, understanding of tax and legal implications of the proposals on the council. Your sector background is less important to us – what we are looking for is an individual with excellent commercial finance acumen combined with strong communication, relationship-building and influencing skills. You will be able to identify and implement solutions that make good commercial sense and have the presentation skills to enable a range of audiences including councillors and senior managers to grasp the key financial issues.
