Allen Lane are currently working with a local authority to recruit a Head of Finance to provide essential challenge and support on all financial matters across the council’s regeneration and major projects directorate. This includes leading the team that supports planning, regeneration and building control budgets, as well as managing the relationship with their wholly owned housing subsidiary. As an experienced, fully qualified accountant, this position provides you with a truly unique opportunity to shape and help drive forward the council’s new initiatives. 

Key duties will include:

  • Supporting the Council’s services to enable them to achieve their business plan and objectives, including enabling high quality decision making, conducting commercial appraisals, financial modelling and reviewing investment opportunities
  • Working closely with external advisers on multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure the council’s interests are protected and its overall financial position is optimised
  • Ensuring tax implications are identified and efficient treatments adopted
  • Managing a team of five

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with strong communication and leadership skills ideally from a construction or social housing background. Knowledge of affordable housing/social housing and a wider awareness of current and proposed legislation within this area would desirable. This is a pivotal role for the finance function and the wider organisation; it requires a strong relationship builder who will work particularly closely with service colleagues across the business as well as commercial development partners and external advisers. We are looking for a passionate, credible and highly experienced candidate with excellent decision-making and stakeholder management skills who will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of achievement.
