Chief Accountant

Shaping Reading’s financial future

Reading has long been considered a great place to live and work. With a thriving economy, low unemployment rate and excellent transport links – with Crossrail developments underway – the borough offers a vibrant and thriving space for its residents, workers and visitors.

The Council has ambitious plans for sustained financial and commercial growth across the borough. Following a restructure within the Finance Service, we are seeking a Chief Accountant to support the delivery of our transformation programme.

With a relevant professional CCAB Accountancy qualification, you will bring a wealth of technical expertise to strengthen the Council’s overall financial control framework. You will be an experienced leader with significant experience of local government finance and have a solid track record of implementing effective internal control arrangements, driving financial systems reviews and facilitating successful audit results.

A strong people manager, you will motivate, inspire and coach your teams across the Technical, Financial Systems and Exchequer areas, generating a strong consensus and building clear pathways for progression. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, you will support our strategic aims to ensure the Council is ‘fit for the future’ and for Reading to continue being a safe, attractive and flourishing place to live, work and visit.
