Our support services play a key role in helping the whole Council work to the best of its ability and ensure the Council can deliver on its priorities. Within that the Financial Management function has undergone some major changes, including; moving to a centralised finance function and implementing a new finance system. The priorities over the next two years are addressing the financial challenges facing the Council and embedding a culture of business partnering and adding value.  

The Financial Accountant is responsible for covering a range of financial accounting, reconciliation and reporting responsibilities in assigned area of Financial Accounting. There are currently two Financial Accountant vacancies covering Balance Sheet Management and Cash and Bank. Duties include:

  • Supporting production of the annual statutory accounts and successful external audit
  • Addressing inadequacies in control procedures and making recommendations in respect of non-compliance with procedures
  • Assisting Group Accountants in completion of quarterly, annual and ad hoc government and statistical returns
  • Preparing audit working papers for assigned areas and ensure these comply with audit requirements
  • Producing high quality and fully supported corporate reconciliations for assigned area

The ideal candidate for this role will be AAT qualified or working towards an accounting qualification. Experience of performing complex reconciliations and having strong analytical skills are essential.
