The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham has embarked on a significant capital and investment programme and is looking to recruit a Capital Accountant to support and co-ordinate the development of the Council’s capital strategy. 

You will lead on capital accounting and monitoring arrangements in the development and maintenance of strategic capital management plans and accounting arrangements and ensuring that this is line with statutory and legislative requirements.

You will be expected to provide high quality professional and technical advice to members, senior officers, and service finance teams on a very broad range of financial issues relating to capital funding and spending, ensuring compliant with Codes of Practice and capital regulations.

You will also support the Investment Fund Manager to provide high quality monitoring, analysis and reporting of the Council’s IAS.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a qualified accountant (CIPFA or equivalent). You must have a detailed knowledge of the accounting requirements in relation to capital and revenue expenditure. Experience working in a political environment and managing people would also be beneficial.
