The Role

The scale and ambition in Camden is unrivalled.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to head up a finance team in our Supporting Communities directorate - an exciting and dynamic department that delivers a range of universal services such as libraries, waste collection, planning and leisure, as well as a significant £1bn capital development programme. We place our residents at the heart of what we do and you’ll be passionate about designing financial services centred on the needs of our residents whilst developing a strategic response to the financial challenges we face.

Camden’s Community Investment Programme (CIP) is a local authority regeneration programme like no other. Our £1bn programme spans over multiple years, making Camden one of the biggest developers of social housing in London.  Through CIP, we aim to build over 3,000 new homes, new school buildings, hostels for homeless people and other community facilities. The Head of Finance will be pivotal in balancing programme financing risks against the pace of delivery, alongside other Camden 2025 priorities. You’ll also be the lead for the Housing Revenue Account 30 year business plan, successfully prioritising the Council’s commitment to resident safety and the delivery of the better homes programme in a challenging and turbulent funding environment.

The Head of Finance plays a critical role in providing strategic financial advice to the Supporting Communities directorate, and lead a team of c13 FTE to implement strategies that will deliver the aspirations in our Camden 2025 Plan.

As a member of the corporate finance management team and the supporting communities directorate management team, you’ll provide expertise in specific service areas, driving exceptional performance with innovation, demonstrating high quality leadership and management skills.

About you

Your extensive background in the financial industry, ideally within a local government setting will mean you are able to deliver excellent leadership at both a strategic and operational level, leading high profile, business critical services. You must be a CCAB (or equivalent) qualified accountant to be considered for the role.

You will proactively seek out creative solutions to long-term financial challenges, identifying opportunities for further improvement and collaborating with others to deliver them.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound political acumen, as well as excellent influencing and collaboration skills. A proven track record of successfully advising on Regeneration and Development programmes will be highly desirable. At the heart of this role is an ability to provide outstanding leadership, people management, and financial advice and support, evidenced by a track record of successfully delivering significant change programmes and high performance within a setting of conflicting priorities and demands.

Please note a psychometric test will be included at interview stage.
