An opportunity has arisen for a technically strong accountant to join the financial accounting team responsible for the production of the statutory financial statements.

In this role, you will provide technical advice on the preparation of the statutory financial statements in accordance with the CIPFA Code of Practice.

You should be at a minimum working towards a CCAB qualification or AAT qualified with extensive experience and have detailed knowledge of the technical and strategic framework within which local government operates. In particular, experience in producing the year-end accounts for a local authority is essential. 

The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships.

Key aspects of the role include:

* co-ordinating the closure of accounts, liaising across the Council and with the Council's external auditors as necessary, and ensuring that it is done in accordance with statutory and best practice requirements

* assisting the Group Finance Manager to secure, on behalf of the Section 151 officer, the proper financial administration across the Council including optimisation of the Council's resources

* contributing actively in the overall management of Financial Services

* providing professional financial advice and attendance at appropriate meetings and working groups
