Rother places great emphasis on strong financial management. We have strong finances and are embarking on some exciting projects to deliver a self-financing Council for the future. Central to this are our regeneration plans for Bexhill and the wider area which will deliver new jobs for the area and income to the Council.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, qualified and/or experienced local government accountant to manage the day to day operation and leading a professional team providing financial and management accountancy services to the Council.

Working with the Assistant Director of Resources, you will provide financial and budgetary advice to Executive Directors, Heads of Service and Senior Officers of the Council. You will manage the day to day operation of the Financial Services team, co-ordinating the preparation of the Council’s annual revenue and capital estimates, preparing management accounts and quarterly forecasts and supporting the preparation of longer term forecasts for the medium term financial strategy.

Ideally you will be experienced in preparing management accounts, forecasts, budgets and final accounts, preferably in a local authority. You will need good interpersonal skills, sound experience of working with computerised financial information systems (we use Unit4 Business World) and excellent communication skills. If you are looking for your first step into management this could be an ideal opportunity for you.

A flexible approach to working hours will be essential to successfully manage the demands of the role. To be successful in this role you must have the following:

  • Full accountancy qualification (e.g. CIPFA)
  • Extensive knowledge of the requirements of a local authority finance service
  • Experience of successfully working in a Political environment.
  • Experience of writing detailed financial reports
  • Experience of managing professional staff
