Head of Commercial - (Band 9) - £91,170- £109,169

The London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) is a unique and complex emergency service serving a diverse population of over 8.5m people and responding to over 1.9 million emergency calls per year. In addition it is also the current provider of  NHS 111 / Integrated Urgent Care in South East and North East London.   Demands on urgent and emergency care providers across the capital are increasing, and the Trust is developing services for patients for whom care can be provided closer to home.  The Trust has recently changed its operating model and a number of exciting opportunities have arisen through this restructure.

The Head of Commercial is a new role for the London Ambulance Service, which recognises that the Trust needs in-house expertise to build capacity and capability to support strategic programmes for growth and commercial activities in order to deliver its strategy.

Reporting into the Director of Finance & Performance, the Head of Commercial will initially have the following job focus:

  1. Lead on increasing the external income for LAS through commercial development, sponsorships, advertising, licensing and other opportunities to ensure sustainable growth is achieved.  Advising the Chief Executive and Director of Finance & Performance on realistic opportunities to leverage this increase in commercial income.
  2. Develop and implement an innovative growth-focused commercial strategy to help the LAS develop its role as London’s primary integrator of access to urgent and emergency care, on scene, on phone and on line.
  3. Provide senior commercial advice to Trust management on capital investment, asset return, operational and commercial income development opportunities and maximising best value and sustainable services from the supply chain, especially for IMT, fleet & estates.
  4. Contract management lead for the trust for third party suppliers. This will require a restructure of the current contract management model.

The successful candidate must be commercially minded and dynamic character who can influence a broad range of stakeholders both within and outside of the LAS. Your significant experience will have been gained within a large, complex organisation that allowed you to implement growth focused commercial strategies to generate increased income.  The successful candidate could come from consultancy, public sector or blue chip business.  Having a commercial acumen and understanding of good contract management is of paramount importance.
