Head of HR Systems and Payroll

Permanent - Full Time

£64,656 - £65,712 per annum PO13 (Effective from 1 April 2019)

Hackney Council is looking for someone with experience of managing a payroll function to join our team. People working here provide invaluable support to everyone who lives, works and visits Hackney. Ensuring our staff salaries and pensions are well managed is an important part of our work to make Hackney a place for everyone.

As Head of HR Systems and Payroll, you will ensure staff payments are accurate and our pension schemes run efficiently. Day to day, this will involve overseeing around 4,300 payments each month adding up to around £150m each year, with additional third party payments of a further £70m per annum.

We need someone who sees the opportunities for technology to help us drive organisational change. Someone who combines the gravitas to liaise with senior managers with the ability to motivate and inspire their team. You will also need the technical understanding and experience to help us implement new ways of working.

This role brings the responsibility of squeezing maximum value out of our budgets for the people who rely on us. You should be inspired by the potential of this role and have the experience to help us make a difference. Ideally you will be someone with a strategic approach, keen to pioneer digital initiatives to support our ambitions. Above all you will need the tenacity to ensure all systems are functional, efficient and robust.

We need someone with experience of working in a similar role for a large organisation. Someone who has an analytic approach and who can ensure data is accurate and concise. As well as experience using iTrent for a large payroll, you should be used to managing data for a Pensions Scheme.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

If the opportunity of working here excites you, visit www.hackney.gov.uk/jobs-careers to apply.

Please contact Dan Paul, should you require further information about the role on 0208 356 5171.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.
