We are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounting team. This is an exciting time to join the team at a time when the Council is putting considerable investment into developing key systems.

The Role

The role will assist with production of the council’s Statement of Accounts for publication and audit, helping to ensure that the accounts are produced accurately within statutory deadlines.

You will provide advice and technical guidance to the Finance team and service areas on the treatment of revenue and capital transactions in compliance with accounting rules. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the regular update of financial policies, guidance and procedure notes for all Council employees.

A key aspect of the role is to provide strategic advice to senior managers and officers on tax issues, the supervision of VAT claims and dealing with HM Customs & Excise on all VAT matters.

You will be responsible for reconciling the Council’s revenue Budget for the current financial year and co-ordination of Fees and Charges information for the annual Cabinet and Council reports.

The post holder will identify and lead on projects within Finance Services to streamline and improve processes employed within the Service and the Council.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

To succeed in this role you will be CCAB qualified or part-qualified, with experience of providing financial advice and support to senior management within a large and complex organisation. You will have knowledge and understanding of local government finance, VAT and tax, as well as demonstrable knowledge and experience of key financial processes including the closure of accounts. You will be a results-driven, proactive team player, with good attention to detail and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels across the Council. You will be confident in engaging with senior management and have excellent communication skills.
