An interesting new opening has arisen for an experienced financial controller to join a governmental arms length body to strengthen the financial accounting department as they prepared for year end.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, this is a senior post within the finance department structure and is responsible for leading, managing and developing the activities of the financial accounting function to ensure they are effectively delivered, the use of resources is optimised and the activities are completed in a professional manner, to the required standards and within an agreed timetable. In addition to coordinating the annual accounts and reporting, and reviewing the work of the team, there will be a degree of hands on, ad hoc work to help out as well. The role will involve contact with a wide range of people at various levels in the organisation and the rapid development of effective working relationships.
You will be a qualified accountant, or equivalent, with substantial financial accounting and financial control experience, who has led a team through a year end process in the past. Indeed, it would be helpful if your background includes audit. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate awareness across not only financial accounting, but the wider management reporting and support teams as well. A strong understanding of government financial reporting (FReM) would be very helpful. Owing to the wide range of contacts, first class communication skills will be essential.
This role is likely to be busy straight away but, as a result, should be very rewarding and give you the opportunity to strengthen your CV.
