Internal Auditor – Audit & Assurance Officer

Grade F: SCP 25 – 29 (£23,111 - £26,470 )

Blackburn with Darwen’s Internal Audit team is a small, dynamic group of staff providing a comprehensive internal audit service across all areas of the Council.  We play a significant role in the Council’s corporate governance framework in relation to risk, governance and control assurance, and investigation work, operating in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person to join us as an Internal Auditor/Audit & Assurance Officer to support Audit & Assurance management to deliver a comprehensive risk based internal audit service for the Council meeting the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of the team.  You will be responsible for planning and delivering internal audits across the Council’s systems and services, supporting Audit & Assurance management to maintain high standards and working practices to deliver an effective annual internal audit plan.

We are seeking a full or part qualified AAT member, or someone with equivalent qualification.  Experience of working in internal audit is also essential. You must also have experience of working with computerised financial or other data systems and of using a range of MS Office products.

You should demonstrate high standards of behaviour, performance quality, credibility, discretion and integrity, as well as an excellent understanding of current internal audit practice. You will have experience of working within an internal audit service in a large, complex organisation.  Knowledge of local government’s organisation and regulations and understanding of corporate governance arrangements and risk management principles is important, as is a good understanding of the services and activities that the Council delivers, as well as the key issues and risks it faces.

We need an excellent communicator who is able to communicate verbally and in writing tactfully and effectively at all levels of the organisation.  You will be able to demonstrate that you can work without close supervision and take appropriate responsibility for your own work, as well as being part of the team. You will able to provide constructive and positive assistance to colleagues and be enthusiastic, energetic and flexible enough to work across any of the Council's services. You should be able to thinking logically about the issues you face, with good analytical and problem solving skills. You must display a positive attitude to achieve your personal goals and to meet team’s objectives.

Please note that your CV needs to evidence how you meet the requirements of the role profile with a supporting statement setting out how you meet the key requirements document.
