Corporate Management Accountant - Local Government
Allen Lane are currently working with a Local Authority to recruit a Management Accountant to join their central finance department. Rather than working alongside budget holders, this will be acting as a corporate gatekeeper for the council; ensuring robust controls are in place across the organisation.
This is a strategic role where the key priority will be to appraise all council proposals to ensure effective financial scrutiny and challenge. This includes assessing and documenting finance and efficiency implications for onward discussion and approval by senior managers and leading Councillors.
As such, key objectives will include;
- Developing effective and efficient financial and administrative systems to ensure that the Department can fulfil its financial responsibilities, including adhering to the system controls and procedures in place, and providing a professional and effective financial administration and support service.
- Deputising for the Financial Controller as and when required and assists on other groups within the Financial Management Division as directed, to provide flexible response to peak workloads.
- Providing supervision as required to assigned staff and takes responsibility for the allocation of work and quality of outputs.
- Advising and supporting senior managers on relevant service and operational matters.
The successful candidate will have significant Local Government experience and be at least part qualified CCAB. Demonstrable experience of managing budget cycles and setting budgets will be required. The ability to explain complex financial terms to non-financial colleagues will be very important and managing stakeholder expectations will be key.
Please note that due to the urgent time frames on this post applications will be reviewed prior to closing date and as such immediate application is recommended.
