About us

Salford has changed and is continuing to change. At the heart of our approach are ambitious plans to transform into a modern global city where we can all make a real difference to the lives of Salford people. As a people-centred and values-based organisation Salford really is a great place to work. With a culture of empowerment and a can do approach, we embrace innovation and encourage performance.

We currently have an exciting vacancy within our team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas.

About you

Your style and approach will reflect our values: you will be passionate about what you do, always striving to improve things, valuing and respecting others’ contributions; you will work together to deliver a better service; you will take pride in getting things right first time and learning from when things do go wrong; you will enjoy taking personal responsibility to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference.

Your natural leadership style will align with our #LeadingSalford leadership behaviour framework. In return, our development programme will help develop your skills, knowledge, and confidence as a leader to meet the expectations that we have of our Salford leaders.

You will bring your experience and fresh perspective to our finance management team, addressing practical problems and driving service improvement. Your CCAB qualification and outstanding technical skills will allow you to take lead responsibility in a principal, corporate accountant role.

You will have a high level of organisational skills, with the ability to manage a multi-priority workload across a range of diverse service areas. Your experience, leadership, negotiating skills and ability to influence will enable you to build, manage and sustain relationships with colleagues, customers, senior managers and members.

About the role

You will lead a small, expert team delivering corporate budget planning and forecasting, treasury management and statutory accounts. You will also be responsible for an efficient and effective team delivering transactional services, accounts payable and receivable. You will lead, motivate and support colleagues to achieve key service objectives, outcomes and deadlines.

You will ensure strong financial stewardship, understanding the impact of statutory and regulatory frameworks and ensuring that these are reflected in the way the council operates. You will review financial processes and seek to identify, develop, plan and implement change strategies within the service.

About the benefits

You will be welcomed into a friendly environment where your personal and professional development will be encouraged. You will have the opportunity to work and grow in a people-centred and values based organisation that promotes a culture of empowerment. Your opinions matter, so you will have the opportunity to shape how we do things through our Salford 100 employee group and our employee-led redesign approach. Your work-life balance and wellbeing are important to us, so you will have access to a range of benefits including flexible working, green travel scheme, pension scheme, salary sacrifice schemes and a range of health and wellbeing options to suit your needs.

Our core data protection obligations and commitments are set out in the council’s primary Recruitment and Employment Privacy Notice which can be found at .

How to apply

Please submit your CV together with a covering letter, detailing why you are applying for the post and how you meet each of the criteria set out in the person specification. The closing date for applications is midnight on Monday, 29 October.
