A London Borough is currently recruiting for an Interim Head of Finance- People for a period of 1 year. This role will be Head of Finance for both Children’s and Adults.

Role

To be responsible for leading a successful finance team to deliver the core financial management processes within the people directorate these may include some or all of the following:

  • Budget setting at the Departmental and overall Council level,
  • Production of the year-end financial accounts, for the department  the associated close down processes and preparing for and responding to external audit
  • Budget monitoring. This includes leading the team to challenge departments/services on the best use of resources available and ensure compliance with the Council’s corporate financial framework. It will also include providing high quality professional financial support and advice.
  • Providing operational financial leadership and customer focused support to the Departmental Leadership Team (DLT)
  • Ensuring compliance with the Councils corporate financial framework for the relevant department and advising on best use of resources
  • Providing personal support and advice to the Executive Director, Directors, Head of Finance and, Cabinet Members and Committees to deliver robust and innovative solutions for the organisation

Experience

  • You will be CCAB Qualified and have extensive knowledge of Children’s and/or Adult Social Care
  • Experience of budget setting, financial monitoring and closing the accounts as well as experience of managing the development of significant strategic budgets
  • Experience of successfully operating in a political environment
  • Track record of identifying and implementing solutions to high risk financial problems
  • Track record of significant change management
  • Excellent oral, written and presentational skills
  • Strong analytical skills and lateral thinking to develop creative and innovative service solutions and a willingness and ability to challenge
  • Track record of identifying, leading and implementing reviews for key financial processes that have led to significantly improved outcomes
  • Track record of successfully leading, managing and developing staff
  • Experience of building and participating in teams, particularly cross departmental teams
  • Ability to set personal priorities, objectives and deadlines while maintaining a focus on the key service priorities/accountabilities, as well as the resilience and drive to meet the demands and pressures of the post
