Reading Borough Council has rebuilt its finance service to deliver a function that is flexible, adaptable and respected.  The service aims to be proactive and innovative in tackling the Council’s finances on multiple fronts.  So far, the Council has prepared a robust and challenging Medium Term Financial Strategy, which requires £40m of savings to be delivered over the next 3 years; it is seeking to improve the management and delivery of its capital programme, including further additions to its exciting business and housing investment portfolio; and the Council wants to be innovative and to exploit its commercial potential.

The Council’s Finance Business Partners are pivotal in our Finance Service and we need experienced professionals to add to our existing team. These two opportunities are to support our Education Service and support to our Schools, and our Housing & Neighbourhoods team but there will be career development opportunities in the future to support other areas. The Business Partner will have a fantastic opportunity, to help to establish a high-performing team that will drive high standards of support to each director and their management teams.  This role will really suit someone who already works in support of budget managers and is now looking for the next step.

This post is for a finance professional looking for the next step in their career and for a challenging and rewarding role; you will need to be resilient, have strong accounting knowledge with experience of deploying it extensively.  To make progress fast you will need to show that you can think creatively, initiate new ideas and drive them through.  If you think that you can manage the challenge and potential of this role, then we would love to hear from you.

Internal Reading Borough Council employees must login via Employee Self Service to apply. If you have not yet been issued with your Employee Self Service account, or you have any queries, please email EmployeeSelfService@reading.gov.uk with details.
