The vision for the borough is: One borough; One community; London’s growth opportunity
Over the last two years, the Council has undertaken an ambitious Transformation Programme to completely redesign the way it works to meet the needs of its residents and over the course of 2017-18 it moved towards becoming a New Kind of Council. This has meant creating new Service Delivery Blocks, wholly owned companies and embedding new ways of working.
At the heart of this is a new relationship with our residents, empowering, building their resilience and enabling them to fulfil their potential by providing opportunities to prosper.
We are outcomes-focused, directing attention and resources to the things that will have the most impact on improving the lives of residents.
Things are changing in Barking & Dagenham and our transformation has been recognised with us being recently voted LGC Council of the Year in recognition
We have recently created a new finance department and as such require a new Chief Accountant to provide financial services to Barking and Dagenham and to its subsidiaries, wholly owned companies and other organisations including but not limited to Be First, Barking and Dagenham Trading Partnership and Reside. You will devise and implement financial policies and strategies for these entities that incorporate best practise and adhere to the council’s financial regulations. You will also oversee the closure of accounts and reporting and lead on the preparation of budget monitoring and forecasting.
You will be a proven Finance expert with full CCAB qualifications. It would be beneficial for you to understand intimately how finance functions operate strategically in a local government setting. You will need to be able to work at a fast pace in this dynamic environment and hold key relationships with senior stakeholders. You will be experienced in managing a significant budget at a corporate level, including monitoring, modelling and financial planning and have thorough knowledge and experience of closure of accounts and external audit process.
