Support the Council and Homes for Reading Ltd. to deliver new homes and enhanced financial performance

Reading Borough Council is rebuilding its finance service to deliver a function which is flexible, proactive and innovative in partnering services to exploit their commercial potential, generating income and optimising the use of resources.

The Council currently has a stock of nearly 7,000 homes and an ambitious council house development programme.

In 2016 the Council established Homes for Reading Limited (HfR) as a professional and responsible private residential landlord wholly owned by Reading Borough Council, with the ability to develop new homes in the future. HfR’s ambition is to own and operate a successful residential property portfolio comprising 500 homes by 2022.

This role will provide equal commitment and services to both the Council’s Housing Service (Housing Revenue Account) and HfR, supporting financially sustainable development and service improvement.

The Council is building the Finance Service it needs to support its success. The successful appointee to this newly created accountant post will have a fantastic opportunity to be part of a new and high-performing team. To succeed in this role you will need to be able to utilise your management and technical accounting skills to work with the Finance and Budget holder colleagues as well as the Managing Director of HfR. Highly tuned analytical skills, careful presentation of data and excellent communication skills are essential to success in this role.

This post is for someone looking for a fast paced, challenging and rewarding role; you will need to be resilient, have strong accounting knowledge with experience of deploying it extensively in a housing context either in the private or public sector. To support rapid progress you will need to show that you can think creatively, initiate new ideas and drive them through.

If you think that you can manage the challenge and potential of this role, then we would love to hear from you.
