Senior Financial Accountant

Essex is a large and complex local authority and we have ambitious plans for transformation. Leading on aspects of financial accounting, treasury management, capital financing and tax, you will play an essential role in maintaining the Council’s financial government framework. In terms of specialisation, you will ensure that detailed timetables and work plans are in place and that all activity is completed in accordance with deadlines whilst complying with all relevant codes, standards and regulations. You play an active role in the Council’s grant system and support the external audit of the Council’s annual accounts. You will lead by example, creating an atmosphere of trust, respect and credibility and you will develop and deliver training to our team of financial professionals.
In terms of your knowledge and skills, you will need a full CCAB qualification , a minimum of two years post qualification experience and have evidence of your continuing professional development. You will have a comprehensive understanding of, and experience interpreting and advising on, the accounting codes, standards and regulations that are relevant to local authorities. You will be strong communicator, with experience of working across multi-disciplinary teams and you will know how to establish credibility and use your influence within a large complex organisation. You will think radically, be open to innovating and always searching for new ways of working to help us achieve the best value for money.
