Birmingham is the UK's second city with the youngest urban population in one of the most lively and diverse regions. The Diocese of Birmingham, founded in 1905, is one of 44 dioceses in the Church of England. It covers an area of nearly 300 square miles, and includes parishes in the West Midlands including Birmingham and parts of Solihull, Sandwell, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
As our Director of Finance in this 9 million turnover charity, you will have the opportunity to lead on the development and implementation of the financial plans across the diocese, supporting the contribution each church makes at the heart of the local community.
You will lead and motivate at the head of a team of four staff, advising the Board of Finance and the Board of Education and other related bodies on decisions relating to the creation of income, the control of expenditure, the investment of assets and the development of financial strategy and policy. You will offer financial support as the outsourced provider of services for the Cathedral Chapter. You will have the opportunity to be hands-on in the implementation of new computerised financial systems.
You will build relationships with the cathedral, schools, deaneries and parishes of the diocese on matters of finance seeking to work with them collaboratively to manage change, generate income from voluntary giving and encouraging good practice in accounting procedures.
As a qualified accountant, you will have substantial senior experience in a multi-million pound not for profit organization and be familiar with the Charities Act. The ability to communicate on financial matters across a wide range ofstakeholders is essential, along with the leadership skills to facilitate change. You will be people oriented, and keen to make a difference, supporting the Christian ethos of the diocese and being an advocate of the Church of England.
