SUMMARY OF MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB Provide financial leadership, advice and support to the Heads of School and their leadership teams. Support the Heads of School to set stretching but achievable budgets, allocate resources and to deliver in line with those budgets. Support the Head of Finance to deliver a first class accounting function to comply with requirements and best practice accounting standards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide financial leadership and advice to the Heads of School. Ensure they understand the financial implications of their decisions and actions.
Together with the Heads of School lead the Business Planning process and ensure that the Plans are consistent with the strategic objectives of the School. Ensure that realistic timetables are set for the School Business Planning process so that timetables are met.
Together with the Heads of School lead the preparation of the School budget, including liaising with the Head of Information and Planning to build the student numbers into the financial forecasts and with the Heads of School to ensure an efficient allocation of staff and utilisation of resources.
Deliver and develop appropriate key financial performance indicators (KPIs). Monitor performance against those KPIs and ensure that this data is effectively reported across the Schools.
Ensure a full course costing analysis is in place and that all new courses are assessed against a financially robust business case.
Produce monthly management accounts for the School and ensure that members of the School leadership team understand the financial outturn and the effect of their actions on School performance.
Together with the other School Finance Managers ensure a consistent financial reporting framework.
Report the financial performance of the Schools, the risks and opportunities to the Financial Reporting Manager against an agreed timeline. Support the Financial Reporting Manager to produce monthly management accounts.
Support the Schools to identify new income sources, opportunities to increase existing income lines and identify ways of improving operating efficiencies.
Manage the School third stream income reporting and assisting in research bids. Develop and implement timetables to ensure that School management information is delivered in a timely manner.
Lead financial staff training in the Schools to ensure that staffs understand the Financial Regulations and why they should adhere to them.
Coordinate the capital needs of the Schools to ensure that the requirement is processed into the budgeting process.
Manage direct reports and ensure that the post holder is adequately trained, fully briefed and clear on timeliness and deliverables. Alert the Financial Reporting Manager to any shortcomings or delays. Manage around planned and unplanned leave; Review the post holder's work.
Support the preparation of the Financial Statements, including liaising with the external Auditor and preparing analysis to enable the Financial statements to be audited.
Liaise with the internal Auditor and ensure that adaequate supporting documentation is available for review.
Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Financial Reporting Manager
Ensure that the Financial Reporting Manager is aware of your staff development needs required to deliver these responsibilities.
