Director, External Audit of Financial Statements
The National Audit Office (NAO) is the external auditor for all government departments and a wide range of other public sector bodies. Our role is to scrutinise public spending on behalf of Parliament and to apply our unique perspective to help drive lasting improvement in public services. We do this through our financial audit of some 460 financial statements and through the 60 value-for-money reports we produce each year, as well as through other non-statutory work.
We are looking to appoint a high calibre, CCAB qualified professional to lead a challenging programme of audit work involving external audit of financial statements. This will include audit of the National Offender Management Service and a new client body, Probation Trusts, for which we have taken responsibility following the government’s decision to abolish the Audit Commission. Experience of auditing these particular bodies is not required – but the successful candidate will need to demonstrate the experience, leadership, intellectual capability and skills to deliver high performance and to contribute to the wider success of the NAO. Experience of audit must be current.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a prestigious organisation with a national and international reputation for delivering high quality audits across a wide spectrum of government activity.
