The role
We are looking for a fully qualified auditor/accountant to lead our Internal Audit and Corporate Risk Management Service.
The Head of Internal Audit & Corporate Risk Management plays a key role in delivering an effective system of audit for the Council’s accounting records, internal control systems and risk management arrangements. They will shape the audit plan and manage a team of 7 in-house staff to deliver this, and work with senior officers across the Council to help drive continuous improvement to vital services.
The responsibilities
You will lead the Internal Audit & Corporate Risk Management Service by example to ensure an efficient, effective and economic service that meets all government legislation and professional guidelines. In particular, you will be responsible for heading the preparation of the annual internal audit plan and securing agreement with chief officers and external auditors to ensure that it runs smoothly.
The requirements
You will be a fully qualified member of CIPFA (or equivalent CCAB) or the Institute of Internal Auditors, and whilst having a proven track record at a senior level within a public sector internal audit service is preferable consideration will be given to applicants with the necessary experience gained at other large organisations such as the National Audit Office or private sector organisations.
Your experience of audit management at a strategic level will include the preparation of long-term audit plans utilising risk analysis.

You will be comfortable working at a senior level and demonstrate the personal and professional presence, together with the technical expertise, to gain the respect and trust of customers, members, chief officers, staff, and external partners.
You will have the resilience to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.
