Director of Resources (S151)

Location: Wellingborough

Salary: up to £81,000

2 year fixed terms with the possibility of permanency

At the borough council of Wellingborough, we are about to go through considerable change. Our finances are on a sound footing in the short term but the longer term presents some challenges. The future of local government in Northamptonshire is also being reviewed and, whatever the outcome, this council needs to prepare for the future.

We are a forward-thinking authority, which is why we are looking for someone to come in and bring innovative solutions to the challenges we face. It is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career, and have a positive impact during a challenging time for local government, as well as the unique opportunity to be part of the team who helps to rebuild local government in Northamptonshire.

As the Director of Resources, you will be responsible for the Council’s finances, not only looking for ways to create better returns and efficiencies, but also to lead the councils input on the financial transition to the future local government arrangements . Part of the Senior Management Team, you will share your knowledge and influence the leadership of the organisation. You will also have responsibility for a range of services, strategic projects and programmes, including contributing to the delivery of the Council’s wider objectives. As a S151, you will work with a wide range of partners and closely support the Managing Director.

To join us and develop your career at this exciting time, you will be CCAB qualified (or equivalent) preferably with a proven track record as a Deputy or ideally a S151 officer in local government. You will think strategically and look at ways to improve services and innovate, whilst keeping a very firm hand on our finances, taking account of the fact that uncertainty and challenging times will face us both generally and financially in the future.
