Cornwall Council is looking for high quality self-motivated individuals who are qualified auditors or project managers, with experience of programmes and change management assurance. The role offers a unique opportunity at this level to gain exposure to senior staff across Cornwall Council, develop increased knowledge and expand strategic awareness.  Internal auditors carry out an independent appraisal of the effectiveness of the policies, procedures and standards by which Cornwall Council’s financial, physical and information resources are managed. They add value by identifying and commenting upon the adequacy of the organisation’s response to risk, thereby assisting management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

With the first rural devolution deal and a complex service delivery structure that includes group companies and huge change programmes these roles provide ideal opportunities for self-motivated individuals who are looking for new challenges and gaining experience of working in a diversified public sector organisation.

Reporting to the Principal Audit Manager, the Principal Auditor – will be responsible for Programmes and Change Management auditing to include planning, managing and undertaking complex, sensitive and high profile assurance reviews across the Council, its group of companies and external clients. You will work autonomously and take responsibility for own work to support the delivery of value add assurance services to all stakeholders. The Principal Auditor will be expected to deliver timely and accurate assurance reports on the financial and deliverability of programmes / projects to all key stakeholders. As an expert in your area you will be required to provide thought leadership in programmes and change management assurance as well as acting as lead client liaison including supporting audit committees as required.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced auditor or a professional who has experience of managing projects who wants a change from business operations into a very rewarding assurance role. You will be a holder of either a recognised auditing, accounting or project management qualification.

To be successful in the role you will need:

  • Demonstrable extensive experience of working independently to deliver robust and independent assurance or supporting transformation programmes and change portfolios in large organisations.
  • Ability to plan, manage and undertake a portfolio of assignments, effectively prioritising the work of yourself and others.
  • Extensive experience of building credible and powerful relationships with senior stakeholders, demonstrating robust judgement, insight and thought leadership.
  • Demonstrable innovative approach to solving problems and the ability to think laterally and challenge the status quo.
