The role:

Centrally located in the Thames Gateway, Gravesham Borough Council provides a range of services to over 95,000 people and 3,000 businesses. Bordered by the River Thames to the north, it is at the heart of Thames Gateway and has a significant role to play in the regeneration of a major government growth area.

Gravesham Borough Council is now seeking to recruit a Finance Officer to join its Financial Services Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of an effective and efficient customer-focused accountancy function relating to both revenue services and capital accounts, with a focus on the key financial processes of budgeting, monitoring, preparation of final accounts and medium term financial planning.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to fulfil these roles with proven analytical and numerical skills and previous experience of financial administration, including working with and interrogating financial systems. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, organisation and IT skills with a working knowledge of Windows Office applications, in particular Excel, Word and Outlook.  To be successful in this role you should have an awareness of Local Government Finance and have the ability to meet deadlines working under pressure both as an individual and as a member of a team.

Applicants should be educated to at least GCSE level (or equivalent), with a minimum of four at grade C and above including Mathematics and English and hold a part accountancy qualification or AAT or similar accountancy, vocational or business qualification. A clean current driving licence is also desirable.
