It is an exciting and challenging time to work in local government finance. We are looking for three ambitious and adaptable qualified accountants to join our innovative, forward thinking financial management team. North Somerset Council prides itself on being an efficient and well run council. Alongside being a strong technical individual, we are looking for applicants with excellent presentation and communication skills and an aptitude to positively embrace, and influence, change.

Service Accountant

To support the Finance Business Partner and the Senior/Principal Accountant, we are looking for ambitious and self-motivated qualified accountants to provide financial support, analysis and advice to services within the People and Communities Directorate. These are career graded posts, which allow for progression once agreed criteria have been met.

While it is essential that the successful candidates will have well-developed technical accountancy and analytical skills, it is equally important that they are able to demonstrate ‘business partnering’ skills. We invite applications from candidates who are passionate about the services they support, keen to understand the business models that underpin services and are able to build effective relationships. Other key skills that will be necessary for success are the ability to adapt to changing environments and to continually seek more efficient ways of working. It will be a significant advantage for candidates to have knowledge and experience of working with services in adult social care, housing and health and children’s services.

North Somerset Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all sections of our community regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation. North Somerset Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
