About the roles

Our Accounts Receivable is a dedicated team with a large appetite for continual collection improvement. We currently have two openings in the team for experienced and enthusiastic Senior Finance Officers to join us to lead on Housing Benefit Recovery and Legal Debt Recovery (separate posts).

For the Housing Benefit Recovery role, you will lead on the successful recovery of overpaid Housing Benefits via a number of sources, reviewing all methods of recovery. Candidates will have substantial Housing Benefit Overpayment experience.

You will initiate legal proceedings and work effectively with our Legal Services team. The post is key to the effective management of Housing Benefit overpayment debt.

For the Legal Debt Recovery role, you will lead on the successful litigation pre-court and court protocol of all Corporate debt. Candidates must have a substantial legal background and legal qualification.

Reporting to the Accounts Receivable Manager, you will be responsible for handling your own pre-and post-litigated caseload from start to finish on court proceedings in relation to debt recovery. To take primary responsibility for defended, complex and contentious litigation cases, managing these through the litigation process in accordance with the policy & procedures in place.

The focus within this role is to collect outstanding debtor accounts, including Social Care debt, to encourage debtors to settle or enter payment plans. You will also be required to communicate with necessary parties with a view of settling the debt and be confident in dealing with complex issues that may arise.

About you

For the Housing Benefit Recovery role you will need to be able to work effectively with internal services and external customers and organisations to ensure the prompt and efficient billing, collection and recovery of Housing Benefit overpayments in line with legislation.

As well as having a very good grasp of Benefit legislation, you will need to be capable of working with customers to ensure that they meet their financial responsibilities but at the same time are supported in dealing with their wider financial circumstances. The role includes carrying out home visits to residents where special attention is required. You will also be required to monitor caseloads, produce reports and provide performance updates to the Accounts Receivable Manager.

To be considered for the Legal Debt Recovery role you must be educated to Degree Level in Law or Paralegal Practising Certificate and have at least 2 years proven debt recovery legal support experience.
