Accountant – Technical Accounting
Your skill with figures will get London’s attention.
Here at the Met, things are changing. And it’s all down to an ambitious transformation project that’ll improve the way we work, and the way we police. Managing billion-pound budgets, our finance department is leading the way. And now we’re looking for people who are just as influential as the city we serve and the figures we work with. People who can adapt. Who can look at things differently. This way, we’ll focus on what matters and make our city even better.
Both the Met and MOPAC have important statutory responsibilities when it comes to managing public funds. Your task is to help the Chief Accountant to provide the necessary assurance for Financial Officers at both organisations. It’s a critical role at the heart of the Corporate Finance team that calls for strong strategic awareness. Here, you’ll be working with varied political agendas and tight resources – which means diplomacy is essential.
Day-to-day, you’ll be interpreting and applying relevant legislation, accounting standards and guidance, drawing on technical expertise. We’ll also look to you to oversee and quality assure asset accounting and appropriate classification throughout the year. With your strong desire to improve processes and add value, you’ll have the drive to uphold the very highest standards.
Right now, you may be studying for CCAB qualification or CIMA– or have achieved this already. We’re looking for good technical knowledge of relevant statutory, regulatory and professional accounting standards, plus an organised approach. You should have in-depth understanding of non-current asset accounting too, and corporate finance accounting experience. The key is to combine all this with good leadership and clear communication. It’s vital that you can influence, negotiate and explain complex concepts in simple terms.
Help us to set a new standard for the city. And have your skills felt across the whole of London.
