Senior Management Accountant
About the role
Working in the Transport, Environment and Economy business unit of Buckinghamshire County Council, this exciting, diverse and dynamic role will provides the opportunity to contribute to placing shaping for the future of Buckinghamshire. You'll lead on providing financial management, reviewing financial controls and developing financial planning across a diverse range of place-based services; providing financial support and guidance to directors and senior managers on the financial implications of major service developments, including major procurement exercises, service planning and budget management issues, both revenue and capital. You'll also provide technical and professional advice to elected members, and other officers within the Council.
You'll use your financial planning and modelling skills to support our waste commissioners and contract managers achieve low cost, high value outcomes around waste disposal and recycling, maximising income potential for example linked to our state of the art Energy from Waste facility. You'll use your strong financial experience around contracts and financial strategy to shape the future of our highways (in alongside Ringway Jacobs, our Strategic Partner) not just in developing low cost, high value solutions around network management but working on the business cases and financial plans that have the potential to reshape our highways infrastructure in years to come.
You can also expect to organise and lead team meetings, oversee redistribution of work, and craft team member and personal development opportunities. A key role within the Finance team, reporting to the Business Unit Finance Director with significant development opportunities for the right individual.

You'll be passionate, dynamic and innovate with excellent communications skills. You'll possess up-to-date knowledge of accounting best practice and processes, with the ability to analyse and interpret complex financial data.
Drawing upon excellent analytical skills you will then present this data to non-financial managers, taking care to explain specialist knowledge in a readily understandable manner.
You'll require experience of supporting contract managers and non-financial budget holders to manage their budgets as well as excellent Excel skills. Please note you must be CCAB Qualified, with relevant post qualification experience and evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
Where our roles are customer-facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the role.
