This role has become available following the departure of the previous postholder and pending a corporate recruitment process to the Council’s accountancy trainee scheme in the Summer of 2018.
The post reports to the Finance Manager and supports the finance team in delivering the day to day aspects of the accounting service covering the entire department.
You will be competent at budget setting and monitoring, able to work closely with budget holders to ensure that they fully understand their budgets and are supported to take action on variances. You will have the ability to communicate effectively to both financial and non-financial audiences, being able to express complex ideas in simple language and comfortable representing the team at internal meetings. The successful candidate should have the ability to spot potential issues when presented with financial information and to address those, communicating with the Finance Manager so that problems are dealt with quickly and effectively.
You will need:
- experience of working in a financial support service;
- a good understanding of local government and the associated legal, regulatory and accounting frameworks;
- a good eye for details and the ability to identify and work through any issues;
- a track record of achievement in managing the key elements of the budget estimates process within a local government or other large organisation context.
