Chief Assurance Executive
Chelmsford City Council is committed to ensuring they meet the needs and expectations of people who live, work and visit the city. To help achieve these objectives and to lead on the transformation of the internal audit function they are recruiting a Chief Assurance Executive.
Following a recent review of the Internal Audit Service at Chelmsford City Council there is a desire to develop a more modern, challenging and risk based internal audit function. Our new aim for Internal Audit at Chelmsford is to be seen as a ‘Trusted Advisor’, providing value-added services and proactive strategic advice to the Council beyond effective and efficient execution of the audit plan.
The Chief Assurance Executive is critical to guaranteeing independent and objective assurance on governance, risk management and internal control arrangements. The role will take responsibility for transforming the function, ensuring it acts as the trusted advisor the Council wants.
The successful candidate will have regular and open engagement across the Council, particularly with the leadership team and the Audit Committee. Key responsibilities will include;
- Leading and managing the Council’s Assurance function, ensuring that effective, value adding and focused assurance services are provided
- Ensuring the Assurance team contributes towards the core principles that underpin the strategic direction of the Council
- Contributing to the on-going development of the Council’s governance and assurance frameworks
- Attending and presenting at the Audit Committee, Strategic Risk Board meeting and other Corporate Leadership and Governance Committees
