We are recruiting to this key role in Finance to help budget managers drive performance improvements across the council. You will support the timely and accurate reporting of Service Clients’ revenue and capital expenditure through budget monitoring, budget setting and producing the council’s final accounts. You will take shared responsibility for the delivery of the council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy. You will establish effective business partnering arrangements with Service Clients, ensuring open, effective and continuous dialogue, identifying and implementing solutions to financial challenges. You will work collaboratively with Finance’s senior team ensuring the core financial functions make a valuable contribution to the council and the community it serves. This is a fast paced, exciting, varied, and challenging role which requires a motivated individual who enjoys a challenge.
You will be CCAB or CIMA part qualified or AAT qualified and have a solid background in local government finance. You will have an ability to deliver customer focused services and service improvement, managing demands and pressures on the service to tight deadlines, to provide innovative and responsive financial advice and support. You will be able to provide effective direction and supervision of the work of other members of the team. You will have an ability to devise business process improvement projects that increase the efficiency of the service and lead their roll out across the department. You will be skilled in extracting and manipulating complex financial information to enable the service to understand the financial position better. You will have the ability and take the accountability to identify issues and resolve queries and technical issues and improve financial control, with limited assistance.
You will have experience of working alongside senior managers within a business partnering model or demonstrate the ability to deliver the outcomes of this model, and providing and developing a high level of service knowledge. You will have detailed experience of working independently using financial accounting system and spreadsheet packages to an advanced level. You have a track record of identifying and implementing valuable solutions to problems. You bring evidence of continuous professional development and of providing high quality customer services and building effective working relationships with service areas. You bring experience of developing and monitoring achievement of budgets including challenging budget holders and managers so they are making balanced and informed decisions and interpreting output monitoring information to help achieve budgets and savings and improved outcomes.
