Waltham Forest Council is an exciting, dynamic and forward thinking place to work, where we aim to ensure excellence and high value through the services we deliver, even in these tough economic times, driven by our ambitious Redefining Waltham Forest programme.  Within this context, we are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Lead Auditor to join our professional Internal Audit service.

About the Role

As Lead Auditor, you will be responsible for the delivery of audit and assurance activity across a varied and interesting range of customers and topics, either working individually or as part of a small team of auditors.  You will also work alongside audit specialists and private sector contractors to ensure we meet our customer expectations.

On a day to day basis, you will work with senior management and senior auditors to develop and maintain effective working relations.  As well as delivering individual audits of a more complex nature, you will support new developments and major change programmes by providing clear and constructive advice on risk, governance and internal control matters.  Your ability to effectively engage and influence in a constructive manner will therefore be essential, demonstrating the value of a modern and effective internal audit service.

Who will you be?

You will have extensive experience of internal audit, ideally in a public sector setting, as well as being well versed in undertaking risk based audits.  This will be matched with a sound knowledge of professional internal audit standards and excellent communication skills.

You will have the ability to present complex information clearly to senior managers, Members and other key stakeholders, and be able to prepare and discuss high quality, clear and concise reports.

Your experience of undertaking risk based audits will be matched with the ability to deal tactfully and responsibly with the above range of people and organisations as you carry out assignments covering the entire range of services offered by the Council and its partner organisations.

With professional competence and expertise, along with appropriate experience in delivering internal audit services, you will be either qualified with the Association of Accounting Technicians, or a full or part qualified auditor (IIA, CIA) or accountant (CIPFA, ACCA) working towards full professional qualification, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge through experience.

If you have any questions about this role, please contact Gemma Young, Head of Internal Audit & Anti-Fraud, on 020 8496 4620 or Berniece Sarsah, Audit Manager, on 0208 496 8392.
